When an obstacle is encountered during the propagation of wireless signals, reflection and refraction occur when the size of the obstacle is much larger than the wavelength of the wireless signal. In addition, the medium properties of obstacles can also affect reflection, refraction, or penetration.

3. Diffraction

When encountering obstacles during the propagation of wireless signals, as the size of the obstacle is close to the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave, it will diffract from the edge of the object.

4. Scattering

When encountering obstacles during the propagation of wireless signals, the size of the obstacles is smaller than the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave, and the number of such obstacles per unit volume is very large, scattering occurs. Scattering occurs on rough objects, small objects, or other irregular surfaces, such as leaves, street signs, and lampposts.

When we understand how wireless signals are transmitted and how to make wireless routers receive signals farther away. We can adjust the transmission power option through the router settings page to enable wireless signal transmission further. The specific setting steps are as follows:

1. Open the browser, enter 192.168.1.1, and press Enter;

2. Enter the router account password and click OK;

3. Enter the configuration page and click on Network → WLAN Settings. Find the Send Power option below, set it to the maximum value, and then click Apply.

But we cannot rely solely on routers because their transmission power is limited, which means the signal at the receiving end is too weak. We need to add signal amplification equipment and signal transmission equipment. We can replace the transmitting antenna of the router with a directional antenna. According to the distance you need to transmit, then choose the antenna with the highest gain. We can solve it through the following solutions.

Option 1: We can place the wireless signal extender device between the receiving end and the Wireless Router. Its function is to receive the searched wireless signal and then expand it. After we set it up, we only need to wirelessly connect to the signal of the extender to wirelessly connect to the router through the extender. Its advantage is that there is no need to set up any wireless routers, and there are no compatibility issues between them. We only need to input the wireless password of the wireless router and set up the wireless extender.



Option 2: If our wireless router supports WDS function, we can also connect a wireless AP or a wireless router that supports WDS function between the wireless router and the receiving device to achieve wireless signal expansion.

Due to power issues, wireless routers cannot cover areas beyond 50 meters. It is necessary to connect another wireless router through wired or wireless means to achieve wireless WiFi signal expansion.

1. Wireless Bridge connection: Select an appropriate bridge based on the transmission range, support 5G frequency band transmission, reduce wireless interference, and have a fast access rate; But it is required that there are no obstacles between the two places and they need to be erected at a relatively high position.

2. Network cable connection: We can use Class 5 or Class 6 network cables to pull network cables between two places, and use network cables to connect a wireless router to achieve wireless signal expansion. It should be noted that the transmission distance of the network cable is within 90 meters.

3. Fiber optic connection: We can use fiber optic to connect optical transceivers, with a pair of optical transceivers connecting wireless devices at both ends to achieve wireless WiFi signal expansion. The transmission distance can reach over 20km; It can achieve long-distance transmission of network signals, and the network signals are also stable.
